In this DVD Keith Thompson reveals his process for taking a zombie creature concept from a thumbnail sketch to the finished drawing. Keith demonstrates each step, from idea development and creating the initial drawing using traditional media to scanning the drawing into the computer and then applying colored glazes in Adobe Photoshop . Keith also explains how to maintain the essential gesture and feel of the thumbnail all the way through to the final concept art. The entire traditional media to digital process is also applied to a collection of extra views of the character. Keith explains how these alternate angles and a set of orthographic rotations are designed to help the 3D modeler.

In this continuation of the Digital Sets series, visual effects designer Eric Hanson illustrates a unique and powerful method to capture and re-create natural landscapes within a 3D environment. Integrating disparate technologies such as spherical panoramic photography, digital elevation models, high-dynamic range imagery, and global positioning, Eric is able to provide a reasonable substitute to nodal pan motion picture shooting, with the added ability to modify and enhance the landscape with the rich array of 3D techniques available within Maya. Various case studies are shown and provided on the DVD for the viewer to use in their own projects.

J.P. is an accomplished digital and traditional illustrator, concept artist and art director for books and video games. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and started working professionally at age twenty, illustrating book covers for Avon Books. Soon after, he got his big break and began illustrating sci-fi and fantasy book covers for Berkeley/Ace Books, Bantam Books and Warner Books. He continued to do work for Wizards of the Coast, The Science Fiction Book Club and many role playing game companies. With over 300 book covers, J.P.'s work has also been published in Spectrum and on collectable plates from the Bradford Exchange. In 2000 J.P. won the A.S.F.A. Chesley Award for best paperback book cover. After many years of illustrating he decided to try his hand at concept art and landed a job with NCsoft. That same year he became Art Director at NCsoft Santa Monica, where he worked on creatures and environments for games such as Tabula Rasa and Aion. He is currently freelancing for publishers and video game companies and is working on a full color graphic novel.
